The Middle Corridor is currently establishing itself as a promising alternative to the Northern Corridor of the New Silk Road. The route particularly connects exporters from China or Kazakhstan with northeast, southeast and central Europe.
Militzer & Münch carries out multimodal transport along the New Silk Road for its customers: by ship from Aktau and Kuryk in Kazakhstan via the Caspian Sea to the port of Baku in Azerbaijan, then by rail to Georgia and from the ports of Batumi and Poti via the Black Sea to Europe. An agreement has been regulating transport along the trans-Caspian route since 2017. The route is used primarily from China to transport goods to European countries. From Kazakhstan the transport time is approximately 35 days.
Normally around 80 percent of Chinese goods reach Europe by sea. The Middle Corridor is currently establishing itself as a reliable alternative to avoid container congestion that prevents timely shipments in many major ports.
“Thanks to our powerful and competent global network, we were able to respond quickly to increasing customer demand for this routing,” says Michael Spitzlei, Head of Business Segment Rail at M&M air sea cargo GmbH.
