By plane from Belgium to China: M&M air sea cargo GmbH enabled the urgent transport of large ship parts with an unusual loading strategy.
A Bremen company, an existing customer of Militzer & Münch, had manufactured the two hull elements, which weighed around ten tons in total, according to requirements and exclusively for a shipyard in Shanghai. They needed the components on a specific day in order to be able to flood the dock after they had been assembled and start the final work on the ship on time. Therefore, only air freight was an option for the tightly scheduled delivery.
“Safety first” applies in the air
To ensure safe transport, the M&M air sea cargo GmbH team had the two five-meter-long, three-meter-wide and over two-meter-high components picked up by a low-loader in northern Germany and transported to a company that specializes in packaging.
Secured with tension straps on custom-made wooden floors, they then transported the cargo to Liège, Belgium. From there they were transported further by plane. The ship elements reached their destination, 8,963 kilometers away, in just over eleven hours instead of at best 35 days on the much longer sea route. The job for the Militzer & team ended at Shanghai Airport. Münch – the recipient’s freight forwarder took care of import customs clearance and delivery to the shipyard.
“It was a rather unusual loading for us. Nevertheless, everything went smoothly and we were able to meet all deadlines,” says Santino-Emanuel Hormuth, branch manager of M&M air sea cargo GmbH Frankfurt. “It was a great performance by the team.”
